DJ Moore Trade: Buffalo Bills Acquire Star Wide Receiver from Chicago Bears in Major NFL Offseason Move

The Buffalo Bills have acquired wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears in a significant offseason trade that could reshape both franchises ahead of the 2026 National Football League season.

According to league reports, Buffalo receives Moore and a fifth round draft selection while Chicago gains a second round pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. The deal represents a major update in the offseason timeline as teams prepare for the start of the new league year and the opening of free agency.

Moore immediately becomes a primary target for Bills quarterback Josh Allen, addressing one of the organization’s most discussed roster needs. Buffalo has searched for consistent production at wide receiver in recent seasons, and the addition of a proven veteran signals the team’s intent to strengthen its offense entering the next phase of Allen’s prime.

Moore produced one of the best seasons of his career in 2023 when he recorded 1,364 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. However, his production declined over the following two seasons with 966 yards in 2024 and 682 yards in 2025 while appearing in all 17 games each year. Despite the statistical drop, Moore remains a reliable route runner and vertical threat entering his age 29 season.

For Buffalo, the trade carries notable roster implications. The Bills have consistently fielded one of the league’s most productive offenses with Allen at quarterback but have lacked a clear number one receiver in recent years. Moore’s arrival is expected to provide immediate stability and expand the passing attack.

The move also reflects a broader league trend in which contenders prioritize experienced pass catchers to support elite quarterbacks. Teams competing deep into the postseason often invest in veteran receivers capable of handling high volume targets during critical games.

From Chicago’s perspective, the trade creates additional draft capital and signals continued roster restructuring under head coach Ben Johnson. The Bears have focused heavily on building a younger offensive core around quarterback Caleb Williams.

Chicago has invested premium draft resources in recent seasons at both receiver and tight end, including Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and tight end Colston Loveland. With those players expected to take larger roles in the offense, Moore became a valuable trade asset that could help strengthen other areas of the roster.

The second round pick acquired in the trade provides the Bears with increased flexibility ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. Teams frequently use second round selections to address starting level positions such as offensive line, defensive front depth, or secondary help.

Moore originally joined Chicago as part of the franchise altering trade with the Carolina Panthers that sent the first overall pick in the 2023 draft to Carolina, where the Panthers selected quarterback Bryce Young. During his time in Chicago, Moore remained one of the team’s most productive offensive players and later signed a four year contract extension valued at 110 million dollars.

The impact of this trade will become clearer as the offseason continues. For Buffalo, the next steps involve integrating Moore into an offense that already revolves around Allen’s dual threat ability. For Chicago, the focus shifts toward maximizing opportunities for its younger receivers while using additional draft capital to continue rebuilding the roster.

With free agency approaching and the draft less than two months away, the Moore deal stands as one of the early defining moves of the 2026 NFL offseason.
