LOS ANGELES — Luka Dončić and LeBron James took control down the stretch as the Los Angeles Lakers overcame the Memphis Grizzlies 128–121 on Friday night, opening a two-game series at home. Dončić led all scorers with 34 points, converting frequently at the free-throw line, and added eight assists and six rebounds. James followed closely with 31 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Together, the two stars fueled a decisive fourth-quarter run that shifted the game in the Lakers’ favor. A 12–2 stretch in the final period sealed the win. During that run, Dončić scored four points and set up teammates for two three-point baskets, while James capped the surge with a strong finish in the lane. Memphis played without six rotation players, including rookie center Zach Edey, but still received balanced production. Jaren Jackson Jr. paced the Grizzlies with 25 points, while former Laker Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 20. Ja Morant contributed 16 points and 11 assists, following his 40-point performance earlier in the week.
The Lakers briefly lost momentum in the second quarter after building a 15-point advantage. Memphis responded with an 18–0 run, sparked by outside shooting from Caldwell-Pope and interior scoring from Jock Landale. The game remained tight entering the fourth quarter, tied at 96. Los Angeles regained control late and held on for the victory. The teams are scheduled to face each other again Sunday night in Los Angeles.
