Giants Sign Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to Three-Year Deal.

The New York Giants have signed linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to a three-year contract worth $36 million. The deal averages $12 million per season and comes shortly after Edmunds was released by the Chicago Bears, who chose not to pay the $15 million he was scheduled to earn during the 2026 season. Despite the Bears’ decision, Edmunds quickly secured a new multiyear contract with the Giants at a slightly lower annual salary. Evaluating linebackers can be difficult because many aspects of their performance are not easily measured by statistics. However, Edmunds’ numbers from last season raise some concerns. His tackle rate against the run ranked in only the 32nd percentile among off-ball linebackers, while his run stop win rate placed him in the 34th percentile. Although Edmunds recorded four interceptions during the season, he also allowed 1.1 yards per coverage snap, which is higher than the league average for his position.

Opinions about Edmunds’ value vary among analysts and free-agency rankings. When compared to other linebackers who recently signed contracts, the Giants’ deal appears somewhat expensive. For example, linebacker Devin Lloyd is reportedly earning about $15 million per year, while Devin Bush, who is signing with the Bears, will make around $10 million annually. Given these comparisons and Edmunds’ recent performance metrics, the Giants’ $12 million per year investment may be considered slightly high.
