In a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Morant celebrated by mimicking the act of throwing a grenade into the audience while covering his ears. This gesture attracted significant criticism from the Inside the NBA team on TNT, with Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley describing it as "immature." Smith pointed out that such actions should be avoided due to their violent connotations, particularly in light of Morant's prior 25-game suspension for displaying a firearm on camera. Barkley noted that Morant's conduct creates difficulties for coaches like Taylor Jenkins, who was recently dismissed by the Grizzlies.

In response to the criticism, Morant explained that his grenade-throwing gesture represents "throwing out his words" and "blocking out the noise," rather than any association with weapons. He expressed that he would not apologize and would continue to use the celebration unless explicitly instructed otherwise. Season Outlook: As the Grizzlies aim for a strong conclusion to the regular season, Morant's behavior, both on and off the court, continues to impact the team's dynamics and its public image.
