NEW YORK - The New York Knicks delivered a statement performance Wednesday night, dismantling the Brooklyn Nets 120 to 66 to snap a four game losing streak and record the most lopsided victory in franchise history.
Jalen Brunson scored 20 points in controlled fashion and Landry Shamet went a perfect 6 of 6 from three point range for 18 points as New York led by as many as 59 points. The 54 point margin surpassed the previous franchise record of 48 and marked the Knicks’ largest win in the modern NBA era.
The breaking update could not have come at a more critical moment for New York, which had dropped nine of its previous eleven games and faced growing pressure following a heavily booed home loss to Dallas earlier in the week. Against a struggling Brooklyn roster, the Knicks seized control early and never relented.
New York raced to an 18 to 6 lead midway through the first quarter behind a 14 to 0 run, then closed the period with a 14 to 3 surge to take a commanding 38 to 20 advantage. Shamet capped the opening quarter with consecutive three pointers as the Knicks dictated pace and spacing from the opening tip.
The Knicks led 60 to 38 at halftime and turned the game into a rout after intermission, outscoring Brooklyn 60 to 28 in the second half. A 16 to 0 run to open the fourth quarter stretched the lead from 88 to 56 to 104 to 56, effectively emptying both benches with more than nine minutes remaining.
New York shot efficiently across the roster and controlled every major statistical category, including rebounds, assists, and turnovers. The Knicks’ defensive pressure forced Brooklyn into disjointed possessions throughout the night, contributing to one of the lowest scoring outputs in Nets franchise history.
Michael Porter Jr. led Brooklyn with 12 points on 4 of 14 shooting in a difficult night for a Nets team that has now lost eight of its last nine games. Brooklyn struggled to generate consistent offense and finished with its lowest point total of the season.
The result extended New York’s dominance in the rivalry, as the Knicks have now won 13 consecutive meetings against the Nets. Brooklyn last defeated New York on January 28, 2023, during the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving era. Both stars were traded shortly thereafter, coinciding with the start of the Knicks’ current streak.
This season’s matchups have been particularly one sided. New York entered the game positioning itself as a legitimate Eastern Conference contender, while Brooklyn continues to evaluate its roster with the NBA Draft lottery in view. The Knicks’ 134 to 98 win over the Nets on November 9 had already been Brooklyn’s worst loss of the season before Wednesday’s record setting defeat.
From a league wide perspective, the 54 point margin ranks among the largest wins in NBA history and underscores the widening gap between the two franchises at this stage of the season. For New York, the performance offers a reset and a confidence boost as the schedule intensifies.
What this means going forward is momentum and clarity. The Knicks showed renewed defensive intensity and ball movement while avoiding over reliance on any single scorer. The outlook hinges on whether they can carry this execution into tougher matchups against playoff level opponents.
Next steps arrive quickly. The Nets return home to host Boston on Friday as they look to stabilize their rotation.
The Knicks travel to Philadelphia on Saturday with an opportunity to build on their most dominant win to date and reinforce their standing in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
