Former University of South Carolina women’s basketball player Laeticia Amihere had an impressive winter competing overseas. As she prepares for the upcoming WNBA season, the Canadian forward spent the offseason playing in Australia’s Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL), where she quickly established herself as one of the league’s best players. Amihere joined the Perth Lynx to continue developing her game before the start of her third WNBA season. Her performance throughout the season proved highly successful, as she was named to the All-WNBL First Team, recognizing her as one of the top players in the league. During the season, Amihere averaged 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. Her scoring average ranked seventh in the league. She also finished third in total blocks and tenth in steals. Additionally, Amihere ranked third in field-goal percentage among qualified players, highlighting her efficiency on offense. Along with her offensive production, she was widely recognized as one of the WNBL’s most versatile defenders. Amihere’s strong performance overseas comes just before she begins a new chapter in the WNBA. She is set to start the upcoming season with the Golden State Valkyries, an expansion franchise that signed her during the offseason. Before joining the Valkyries, Amihere spent her first two WNBA seasons playing for the Atlanta Dream.
Before beginning her professional career, Amihere built a successful collegiate résumé at the University of South Carolina. During her time with the Gamecocks, she played multiple positions and contributed in a variety of roles, primarily serving as an important player off the bench while occasionally making starts. In addition to her on-court impact, she was also recognized for her leadership and academic achievements. Amihere earned three SEC Academic Honor Roll selections, was named to three SEC Community Service Teams, and served as the SEC Women’s Basketball Leadership Council Chair during the 2021–2022 season. Amihere also holds a notable program record at South Carolina. She set the school’s record for the most blocks in a single NCAA Tournament game with nine blocks against Texas during the 2020–2021 tournament.
During Amihere’s time in Columbia, the Gamecocks experienced significant success. The program captured three SEC regular-season championships, three SEC Tournament titles, and an NCAA national championship, making her collegiate career part of one of the most successful eras in South Carolina women’s basketball history.
