The Houston Rockets face their most critical challenge yet tonight in Game 6 against the Golden State Warriors, with their playoff survival once again on the line. After a gritty 15-point victory in Game 5—powered by a combined 75 points from Amen Thompson, Fred VanVleet, and Dillon Brooks—the Rockets extended the series and now look to carry that momentum into the Chase Center in San Francisco. Golden State, led by veteran head coach Steve Kerr, pulled their starters midway through the third quarter of Game 5, seemingly reserving their energy for what is expected to be a high-stakes showdown. Though the Warriors dropped Game 5, they return home with partial rest and a chance to close out the series in front of their fans. All eyes will be on superstar guard Stephen Curry, who has struggled to recapture his scoring rhythm after a 36-point eruption earlier in the series. Curry is officially listed as available despite wearing a right thumb splint, and his response tonight will be crucial in determining the Warriors’ offensive success. Teammate Gary Payton II, also available, is managing a similar injury to his left thumb. These minor injuries may not significantly hinder their performance but are worth monitoring.

The Rockets, on the other hand, will again be without Jae’Sean Tate (right ankle impingement) and big man Jock Landale (right knee contusion). Though Landale offers size, his absence is unlikely to drastically alter Houston’s rotation. The Rockets' recent success has largely depended on backcourt play and energetic wing defense, especially from Brooks and Thompson. One storyline to watch is the ongoing condition of Jimmy Butler, who, while no longer listed on the injury report, is recovering from a pelvic contusion sustained in Game 2. Although his toughness is unquestioned, any lingering pain may affect his lateral movement and explosiveness, potentially limiting his two-way impact. Nonetheless, his presence and leadership remain vital to Golden State’s game plan.

Game 6 promises fireworks as the Rockets attempt to extend their season once more. With a potential Game 7 looming, tonight’s contest may ultimately define the arc of Houston’s young core and the legacy of Golden State’s dynasty.
