The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of a proposed trade that would have brought All-Pro defensive end Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to Baltimore. According to reporting from Ryan McFadden and Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal collapsed after medical concerns surfaced during Crosby’s physical examination. The agreement would have sent Crosby to Baltimore in exchange for two first-round draft picks, including the Ravens’ No. 14 overall selection in the upcoming National Football League draft and another first-round pick in 2027. However, NFL trades are not finalized until players successfully complete their physicals and the league year officially begins. Sources indicated the Ravens’ medical staff had concerns related to Crosby’s recovery from a torn meniscus in his left knee. The star pass rusher underwent surgery in January and is currently about eight weeks into rehabilitation. Although the team ultimately decided not to proceed with the trade, Crosby’s representatives insist he remains ahead of schedule in his recovery. Crosby’s surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, said the defensive end is progressing well and is expected to return during offseason activities. ElAttrache acknowledged that evaluating a player’s long-term risk early in the rehabilitation process can be difficult, especially when teams must commit significant financial and draft capital to complete a trade.

Despite the setback, the Raiders now face an uncertain situation regarding Crosby’s future. The organization recently spent heavily in free agency, including signing Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum and adding defenders Quay Walker, Nakobe Dean, and Kwity Paye. Las Vegas also re-signed cornerback Eric Stokes and edge rusher Malcolm Koonce, while strengthening its receiving corps by signing Jalen Nailor. Team sources say the Raiders may still explore trade options for Crosby, though some teams that previously showed interest have already moved in other directions. For example, the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly unlikely to pursue Crosby again after recently acquiring Rashan Gary. The canceled trade is not unprecedented for Baltimore. In the past, the Ravens have voided agreements after failed physicals, including deals involving Ryan Grant in 2018 and Michael Brockers in 2020.

Baltimore must now refocus on improving its pass rush after finishing last season with only 30 sacks, tied for the second-fewest in the NFL.
