Angel Reese made a memorable return to LSU on Friday night as the Chicago Sky dominated the Brazilian national team 89-62 in an exhibition game held at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The former LSU star, now in her second WNBA season, posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, reminding fans why she became a college basketball sensation and a key figure in LSU’s 2023 national championship run. From the moment Reese stepped into the arena, the crowd of 6,373 welcomed her with warmth and admiration. "I'm just happy to be back to see all the fans, even down to the security guards, because I know how much was put into this program," Reese said after the game (Herbert). Wearing her familiar No. 5 jersey, she was cheered on by fans clad in Chicago Sky shirts and LSU gear. The night also celebrated another LSU alum, Hailey Van Lith, who transferred to TCU after the 2023–24 season. Van Lith received a thunderous ovation when she entered the game in the third quarter. She contributed seven points, five assists, and three rebounds in her Sky debut. Before the game, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey honored both Reese and Van Lith with flowers and a tribute video highlighting their collegiate careers.

Reese's performance was only part of a strong showing by the Sky. New head coach Tyler Marsh made his debut alongside a revamped starting lineup that included veteran free agent signings Courtney Vandersloot and Kia Nurse, as well as Ariel Atkins, acquired via trade. Vandersloot, a four-time All-WNBA guard, orchestrated the offense with poise and precision, helping the team find early chemistry. Kamilla Cardoso, facing her fellow Brazilians, added six points and eight rebounds. While Reese’s stats were impressive, the emotional resonance of her return to LSU stood out. Having transferred from Maryland and become the face of LSU women’s basketball during her time there, Reese's homecoming served as both a personal and professional milestone. Now carrying her college legacy into her WNBA career, she continues to inspire fans and teammates alike.

The Brazilian national team will continue its U.S. exhibition tour against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Sunday in Iowa City, providing another chance for international talent to match up with rising WNBA stars.
