Summit FC Grind Out Record Clean Sheet in 0–0 Draw with Seattle Reign at Spokane.

At ONE Spokane Stadium, expansion side Denver Summit FC delivered another disciplined defensive performance, holding Seattle Reign FC to a 0–0 draw in a tense, physical matchup that extended Denver’s early-season unbeaten run and secured a place in the NWSL record conversation. The result marked Denver’s third consecutive shutout, making them just the third expansion team in league history to accomplish the feat. The defensive stretch places them alongside the 2016 Orlando Pride and 2018 Utah Royals as early-season standouts on the defensive end. Seattle controlled much of the opening tempo, while Denver stayed compact and limited clear chances. The Summit’s first notable opportunity came in the 17th minute when Janine Sonis missed wide, but Denver soon generated sustained attacking involvement from Carson Pickett, Sonis, Melissa Kössler, Yazmeen Ryan, and Delanie Sheehan. Denver finished the first half with eight shots, matching their season-high for a half, while Seattle’s attack slowed after early pressure. Both teams made second-half adjustments around the hour mark, with substitutions aimed at breaking the deadlock. The decisive moment came late when Yazmeen Ryan delivered a cross to Sonis, whose header was denied by Seattle goalkeeper Claudia Dickey. In stoppage time, Seattle pressed for a winner, but Denver goalkeeper Abby Smith preserved the clean sheet with key late saves. Denver’s defensive structure, led by Meg Reid, remained consistent throughout, helping limit Seattle despite 54% possession for the home side. Denver finished with 18 shots compared to Seattle’s lower output, reflecting their counterattacking efficiency.
