Several players have worn jersey number 33 for the Phoenix Mercury throughout the franchise’s history. Although the number has not always been associated with a single long-term star, multiple athletes have contributed memorable moments while wearing it. Most recently, veteran guard Sami Whitcomb added to the number’s legacy with a standout performance during the 2025 season. The first Mercury player to wear No. 33 was Adrian Williams-Strong, who joined the team in 2000 after being selected in the second round of the WNBA Draft. During her rookie season, she averaged 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. A few years later, Williams-Strong developed into an All-Star player. In that season, she averaged 9.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. One of her most memorable performances came when she scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a victory over the Detroit Shock, helping Phoenix earn its third win of the season. Other players also wore No. 33 for shorter periods of time. Sonja Mallory appeared in six games for the Mercury, averaging 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds. One of her notable performances came in a matchup against the Houston Comets, where she scored four points despite Phoenix falling 69–46. Angelina Williams also wore the number after being drafted by Phoenix in 2005. During her single season with the Mercury, she averaged 2.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. Her best game with Phoenix came when she scored 11 points off the bench in a dominant 91–57 win over the San Antonio Silver Stars. Williams later joined the Detroit Shock, where she eventually won a WNBA championship.

Kelly Mazzante later became another player to wear No. 33 in Phoenix. She began her WNBA career with the Charlotte Sting before eventually joining the Mercury. Although some of her most productive performances occurred earlier in her career, she remained a notable contributor during her time in the league. Several additional players have worn No. 33 in more recent years, including Cierra Burdick, Kristine Anigwe, Kaela Davis, and Destanni Henderson. Each of these players spent time with the Mercury and contributed in different ways during their tenure with the team. The most recent player to wear No. 33 for Phoenix is veteran guard Sami Whitcomb, who joined the Mercury in 2025. Whitcomb delivered one of the most impressive performances associated with the number when she scored a career-high 36 points against the Dallas Wings. Her scoring outburst helped Phoenix secure an important victory and demonstrated her value as a sharpshooter and experienced leader.

Throughout the history of the Phoenix Mercury, the No. 33 jersey has been worn by a variety of players who each contributed to the team in different ways. From Adrian Williams-Strong’s All-Star season to Sami Whitcomb’s explosive scoring performance, the number continues to represent an evolving part of the Mercury’s franchise history.
