SEATTLE — Matty Beniers and Berkly Catton found the net just 18 seconds apart early in the third period to lift the Seattle Kraken to a 4–2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday. Goaltender Joey Daccord stopped 27 shots as Seattle earned its third win in its last 10 games. The contest marked the 300th NHL game of Beniers’ career. Ryker Evans and Jordan Eberle also scored for the Kraken. New Jersey goals came from Dougie Hamilton and Jack Hughes, while Jacob Markstrom recorded 15 saves in his sixth start over the Devils’ past seven games. Despite the loss, New Jersey finished its four-game Pacific Division road trip with a 3–1–0 record. Hamilton opened the scoring at 8:11 of the first period with a power-play goal, his sixth of the season. The defenseman has now totaled eight points over his last nine games. Seattle tied the game at 7:37 of the second period when Evans’ shot deflected off Johnathan Kovacevic’s stick and slipped through Markstrom’s pads as the goaltender was screened. Beniers gave Seattle the lead at 7:04 of the third period, and Catton quickly followed at 7:22 to extend the advantage. Hughes responded for New Jersey with a power-play goal at 8:14 after the puck deflected off Adam Larsson’s leg.
Eberle sealed the win with an empty-net goal, his 18th of the season, with 1:12 remaining in regulation. Seattle will host the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, while New Jersey returns home to face the Winnipeg Jets the same day.
