Luke Hughes Leads Devils to Comeback Victory Over Blue Jackets.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Luke Hughes scored the go-ahead goal 4:45 into the third period, sparking the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 comeback victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night. Hughes also recorded an assist, marking his 28th multi-point game and tying Rob Ramage for the most multi-point games by a defenseman under 23 in franchise history. His goal, a shot from the slot, gave New Jersey the lead. Nico Hischier and Arseny Gritsyuk also scored for the Devils, who had trailed 2-0 after the first two periods. This marks New Jersey’s first win this season when trailing after two periods and its first multi-goal comeback since November 29, 2024, at Detroit. Goaltender Jake Allen made 34 saves, including a late stop on Kirill Marchenko’s one-timer. The three goals came in just 1:56, making it the fastest three-goal stretch for the Devils since February 6, 2023, when they scored three in 50 seconds against Vancouver. For Columbus, Mason Marchment scored in the first period, becoming the first player in franchise history to record a point in his first five games with the team. He has four goals and six points since being acquired from Seattle on December 19. Jake Coyle added the Blue Jackets’ second goal, assisted by Boone Jenner, who became the fourth player in franchise history to reach 400 points, totaling 205 goals and 195 assists in 766 games. Goaltender Jet Greaves stopped 30 shots, ending Columbus’s two-game winning streak.

Hischier tied the game 2:49 into the third period, tipping in a shot from Hughes while Greaves was screened. Gritsyuk gave the Devils the lead 55 seconds later on a snap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle, assisted by Meier.
