Lyon Records 26 Saves, Ties Buffalo Record in Sabres’ 5-0 Win Over Islanders.

NEW YORK — Jason Tucker scored twice, and goaltender Alex Lyon made 26 saves, tying a Buffalo Sabres record with his ninth consecutive win, as Buffalo defeated the New York Islanders 5-0 on Saturday. Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin, and Alex Tuch also scored for the Sabres, who earned their third straight victory and fifth win in seven games. Ryan McLeod and Mattias Samuelsson each contributed two assists. Lyon, who joined Buffalo in July after two seasons with Detroit, earned the sixth shutout of his career. He matched Gerry Desjardins’ record from the 1976–77 season for most consecutive wins by a Sabres goalie. Buffalo has improved to 18–3–1 over its last 22 games. Islanders goaltender David Rittich made 16 saves in the loss. The game marked the Islanders’ first home contest after a seven-game road trip in which they went 3–3–1. Rittich, who last started on January 17 against Calgary, entered the game with a 4–2–2 record and a 2.46 goals-against average versus Buffalo; his season record fell to 11–7–3. The scoring began 33 seconds into the second period when Zucker converted a wrist shot off a rebound from Jack Quinn. Thompson added a goal at 19:47 of the period, extending Buffalo’s lead to 2–0. Zucker scored again 25 seconds into the third, making it 3–0. Dahlin scored into an empty net at 14:02, followed by Tuch, who tipped Samuelsson’s shot past Rittich roughly 30 seconds later to complete the scoring.

Bo Horvat returned to the ice for the Islanders after missing nine games with a lower-body injury.
