MacKinnon Nets 399th Career Goal as Avalanche Defeat Kings 5–2.

Nathan MacKinnon scored the 399th goal of his NHL career and added an assist as the Colorado Avalanche extended their winning streak to eight games with a 5–2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night. MacKinnon’s goal, his league-leading 32nd of the season, came on an empty net late in the third period. Brock Nelson recorded a goal and an assist, while Jack Drury, Cale Makar, and Martin Nečas also found the net for Colorado. The Avalanche have now won 14 straight games at home. Colorado continued its historic start to the season, earning points in 28 of its last 29 games and posting a 10-0-1 record over its previous 11 contests. With 65 points through 38 games, the Avalanche rank second all-time for fastest to that total, trailing only the 1929–30 Boston Bruins. Los Angeles received goals from Corey Perry and Joel Armia but dropped its seventh game in the last nine. Drury opened the scoring midway through the first period before Perry tied the game with a power-play goal early in the second. Nečas restored Colorado’s lead later in the second period by tapping in a loose puck on the goal line. Nelson followed with a snap shot that beat Kings goaltender Anton Forsberg with 2:30 remaining in the period. Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made 23 saves, including a key stop on a short-handed breakaway by Adrian Kempe. Armia later scored short-handed for Los Angeles, skating coast to coast and finishing through Blackwood’s pads. The goal marked the Kings’ NHL-leading seventh short-handed tally of the season.

Forsberg stopped 21 shots for Los Angeles before being pulled for an extra attacker late in the third. Makar added a goal in the final minute to secure the win.

The Kings will host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, while the Avalanche return to action Wednesday night at home against the St. Louis Blues.
