Charlie McAvoy scored just 39 seconds into overtime, leading the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night and securing their 13th consecutive home win. Goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 14 saves to help Boston maintain its strong record at TD Garden. Mason Lohrei opened the scoring in the third period, breaking a scoreless tie. Five minutes later, the Kings responded when Drew Doughty’s shot from the blue line deflected off Bruins forward Elias Lindholm and into the net. This game marked the seventh straight matchup between these teams in Boston to reach overtime. In overtime, Mark Kastelic blocked a shot in the defensive zone and sent a long pass to David Pastrnak, who set up McAvoy. The U.S. Olympian, who had left the ice earlier in the second period after taking a puck to his mouth, skated in on Darcy Kuemper and scored on his backhand for the win. Kuemper stopped 21 shots for the Kings, who were just one point shy of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Swayman recorded his 25th win of the season, tying his career high. The Bruins continue to dominate at home, remaining unbeaten at TD Garden since before Christmas. After the game, Kings forward and future Hall of Famer Anze Kopitar remained on the ice to shake hands with the Bruins, likely marking his final game in Boston.
Boston will host the San Jose Sharks on Thursday, while the Kings travel to face the New York Islanders on Friday.
